The MGB's B series 1798cc powerplant had been produced since 1947. Developing 95 hp and giving the MG a 0 - 60 time of 11 seconds, it was a competitive package for the era. With the majority of MGB's destined for the US market, the engine was de-tuned in 1964 and featured a 5 bearing crankshaft making a heavier and less powerful unit.
